Managing Change in a Culturally Diverse Organisation

When you are running a global transformation programme based in Monaco, how do you get a team of welders to change the way they work in Kuala Lumpur?

SBM Offshore builds and operates oil and gas production vessels and platforms. It employs 9000 staff - engineers, project managers, construction workers and vessel operators - working offshore and at execution centres in Schiedam, Kuala Lumpur, Rio de Janeiro, Monaco and Houston.

In response to rapid growth SBM set-up the Odyssey 24 transformation programme. Odyssey comprises 20 projects with the aim of standardizing and improving ways of working across the entire business within 24 months. From supply chain management and safety procedures to estimating, planning and controlling the construction of $1.5bn production vessels; the ultimate goal is to increase its competitiveness. Hand over to BAU commences in October 2015.

Programme Director, Stephanie Jalabert, shares her experience of securing business ownership for managing change in a multi-cultural and professionally diverse business. SBM’s change management partner, CMC, reveals how they collaborated with SBM to successfully apply ‘best practice’ change management ‘in practice.’
